12L14 and 1137 are a couple steels that are used .

some use 4140.  it's tough to machine.

Thanks guys. As we have no barrels in Brazil I thought to do in steel 1045. I think it would be possible for a pistol

Mild or tough steel is best.  No need for carbon steel.

High quality low carbon, 1010-1020, hot rolled steel will work in low pressure applications. 4140 is the standard for cartridge barrels.
Low quality steels, cold rolled (free machining) or other steels with high levels of sulfur, leaded steels etc are not good choices.

Mild steel will work for all but springs. Sears, tumblers  and set triggers can be case hardened to provide wear resistance.
