Two rifles
« on: April 28, 2020, 12:50:26 AM »
I am posting pictures of two of my better antique rifles.
The top gun is 57" OAL. Barrel is 41 3/4" long, 3/4" across the flas and 1/2" bore.
The barrel is marked 1852  18 and has a name stamped that I am unable to read.
It also has some markings on the top flat that are a series of dots.
Lock is marked T Davidson

The bottom rifle is 51" OAL. Barrel is 35 1/2" long. OD is 7/8" and bore is 3/8".
Lock is marked Joseph Golcher.
I bought these rifles off gunbroker a few years ago and know nothing about.

If you can supply an info, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
Dan

The later percussion rifles are often harder to place because there were hundreds to thousands of gunmakers moving all over the place and using widely available parts by then.

Rich,

I'm sure that's true.

I've enjoyed antique guns since I was a little boy in early grade school.
I'm not a scholar, just enjoy old guns.

I've also enjoyed American history since I was a little boy. It's something
my brothers and I were born with.

DOGBEST--Your statement about enjoying antique guns since you were young probably applies to 95% of us on this forum.

I got hooked when I saw Davy Crockett in 1955.

These are fun and nice to have, but just keep it in mind that you haven't found your best one yet, so keep on looking. A wild thought here, but these look like Ohio, or midwest guns to my eye. Nice and original 'as found' rifles; best to keep them that way. Thank you for bringing then around.

I was hooked after watching the tv series Danial Boone in the late 1960's. Two interesting old rifles.

Thanks for your comments.
It's interesting to hear that others have been hooked since a very young age also.

I've been hooked on these for a long time. I have my favorite styles but I still see something in all of them.

By the way on your rifles. I think T. Davidson is a lock maker from Ohio. If I'm correct that might be a good place  to start looking.  Jim

jdm and mr no gold.

Thanks for your comments regarding Ohio.
I'll look into it and see what I can find out.
The search is fun.
