I totally agree with Little Joe. If a lock is properly inlet it needs no front lock screw. I make them both ways and have never had a problem, nor have the customers that I sold to. Many originals in the Southern mountains were made this way to keep things simple, I'm sure.
Making a copy of a gun from a given school or style is a concern form many, as I can understand.
Your lock inlet is very well done.
