Heart Shaped Bag
« on: May 05, 2020, 06:00:59 AM »
Here’s something a little simpler, and a little more rustic than my last couple bags. This is my version of a bag shown in Jim Webb’s book on hunting bags and accoutrements of southern Appalachia. It’s 2-3 ounce veg tan cowhide, with a small inside pocket. The gusset is flat sewn, which looks a bit odd, but does make a roomy little pouch. It’s roughly 7 1/2” wide and deep. The shoulder strap is 1” wide, probably 7-8 ounce cowhide, with a brass buckle. A small brass button holds the flap closed. I think it pairs well with the banded horn I recently finished, and together they will accompany an iron mounted rifle after Joseph Bogle that is next on my list.

I like that one. I may borrow that design with the gusset coming up for part of the strap.

Nice looking outfit there, Greg. Should go nicely with your Boggle rifle.

Greg,

Nice clean lines on both the pouch and horn.   What's not to like in this combination?

Take Care,
Kevin

Very nice execution of this bag. I used a heart shape for years.

Cool Greg.  I like the heart shaped ones.   Items don't get lost "in the corners" in a heart shaped bag.  :-)  Nice execution.

Great to get another look at that fine looking horn too.  Love that one.  It reminds me of the first horn I bought from Tim Crosby in Williamsburg, which is a compliment as I love that horn.

God Bless,   Marc

I was just looking at that bag in Jim’s book yesterday. Yes Sir, you did it justice with your rendition of it.   Neat little bag !

Thanks for the kind words, fellers...I truly appreciate your encouragement. This was a fun little project, that I might revisit later and make a more refined version.

Bob, I have to get busy in the forge and make some fullering tools, and get the hardware for that Bogle done before the weather heats up too much. And, I have to get a stock blank...I was hoping to get one at the Knoxville show, but we all know what happened there...🤷🏻‍♂️

I have made a number of copies of that bag.  I really like the design.   Your execution is very neat and professional.  I also really like the horn.   All very neatly done.

Thanks, Cory Joe and Mark.  I really appreciate the comments. I’m trying to learn a little with each project, and this one was fun. The nice thing is, now I have a good pattern, and the options are endless!

Very nice job Greg.  I've made a couple of these a number of years ago and still have the pattern that I like and is such a neat, compact pouch that has room enough for everything needed for a day hunt.   Like your version as well.
