To fly or not to fly
« on: May 08, 2020, 03:22:49 AM »
I am building a gun with a simple single trigger. The lock has a fly. Leave it in or take it out ? Does it matter ?

Leave it in, it has to go somewhere.

Leave it in. It doesn't eat anything.

Leave it in. It adds no weight and can be a benefit as the lock wears from use.

I generally leave them in. If it lifts the sear too high it may need a little "tuning".

If the simple trigger is tuned to have a very light pull a fly is needed.

Yep, I found that out the hard way. If you don't jerk the trigger you may get caught at 1/2 cock.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Looks like it’s staying in. Thanks.
