I’m looking forward to a future project of a southern rifle that I recently saw in an old muzzle blast mag that had a captured Patchboxes lid. My question is how the lid sits in this situation, does the lid sit “on” the surrounding brass when in closed position or does the lid rest inside the Patchboxes cutout? The pics I can see makes it looks like the lid sits on the surrounding brass. The rifle in question interests me with this Patchbox,it’s release being on the left side of stock and later style lock. I haven’t studied southern rifles much till lately, just ordered some KRA disc’s. This rifle I’m interested was made by Hiram Kennedy & Company and Shumway had shown it in an article Nov. 2000 MuzzleBlasts. Hopefully someone has some insight into this style of patchbox.
