Bucks County Fowler -Finished

Here’s the Bucks County I’ve been working on for quite some time.  I just noticed that I need to cut the rear sights in.  It’s a 20 g octagon to round inlet by David Rase, 13 3/4 pull, Stoner Creek Wood, Dale Johnson lock.  I fabricated the thimbles, nose cap and several other small parts. I used several different guns as reference from flintlock Fowler’s, rca 1 and the bucks county kra disc.  It’s my 3rd gun from a plank.  Thanks to Mike Brooks, flehto and everyone else for the advice along the way.

Hi....A really nice BC and it's  got all the BC features.... including the Mcap. The buttstock has both the combline and toeline curved and how did the Dale Johnson fit in? Always wanted to use that lock on a BC , but never got around to it.... used it on a couple of Lancasters. What are you thinking about for your next build? Again, looks really nice.....Fred

Thanks Stoner and Flehto.  The Dale Johnson lock worked fine.  I actually set in wrong at first.  I follow Mike Brooks’s tutorial and missed a part and set the tail low.  There’s a filler piece at the bottom of that lock that I masked pretty well.  I don’t have a plan for another.  I now have all the bags and guns I want to hunt with.   If I were to build another for myself,  it would be a deer hunting rifle.  My 50 cal lehigh is a cheek slapper but I can deal with it.  I may take Stoner up on a rifle.   That would keep me learning.  My next venture is to put scales on a few knife blanks I have.  I also have a few polished horns I bought at the CLA show.  I wouldn’t mind trying to make a smaller Screw tip horn.

Looks like a good job, I have never built one of those before. I have always been to intimidated by the RR pipes and the big old barn door box covers.
 I would suggest you look into a Christian's Spring gun or a Dickert, or a Beck. Beck had some great carving that may catch your interest.

Really nice job. I like the finish very much.  One question, though, and it may be just the photo, but,
is that front sight off centre ??

Thanks fellows.  Bob,  the sight is strait.  I must have been off center on the photo.  I don’t know what I was thinking.  I hadn’t finished the ramrod, cut the rear sight in or put the flash liner in.  She’s finished now.  That finish is a first time use for me.  It’s Kibler iron nitrate, Several coats of the Jim Chambers Stuff a little aging and waxed.  I used the tried and true on my others.  The Chambers finish seems to not darken the wood as much and dries weeks faster.  Mike intimidated?  Yeh right!  I saw that lion and lamb patch box. I’m still scratching my head on that one. Haha

That is very nice. I like the Bucks County guns very much. I doubt I will ever make another fowler, but if i did one like yours would be a consideration. Have you shot it yet?

Thanks for the compliments. Feel free to throw in advice.  My focus on this one was getting the stock rounded from butt to muzzle.  Here’s the ramrod, sight and flash liner installed.  She’s actually done now. I read that the Lehigh sights that set on the middle of the base are more appropriate and I have a set but I like these better and they appear in a couple pictures of Bucks County Rifles I have. These are easier on my eyes.
