The smoothbore makes meat...
« on: May 18, 2020, 04:59:15 AM »
Squirrel season opened Friday. I had to work so when yesterday rolled around the Mrs. asked if I was going to go. I told her I would and she proceeded to get online and purchase her hunting license and told me she was going along. So I rigged her out with the .32 and I took the smoothbore. It was hot... And humid. The squirrels did not cooperate so we called it a day and came home.

Today was much nicer... 70°, low humidity, and a cool breeze.

The Mrs. decided to stay home so I headed out alone. I was getting ready to give up when this bushy-tailed volunteer emerged.

65 gr of Goex 3f and 1 oz of #6 persuaded him to come home with me. By the time I got him skinned and cleaned it was near dark so I packed it in.

Only one, but it beats coming home empty handed.

I was starting to wonder if there were any left at this spot... There was one anyway.

Gotta share some pics when you go Bob. Which gun you planning on taking... The Kibler?

Green with envy as we have no Spring season here.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing, Skychief.

I'm rebarreling the Kibler to .45. Taking the Jack Duprey Soddy .36. Can't wait....

Come on down. ODWC upped the daily limits on squirrel last year... 25 daily, 50 in possession.

I doubt I could get a day's limit where I hunted yesterday. But one of my wife's friends owns a pecan orchard near the Neosho river. I might have to hit her up and see about hunting it sometime.

That was still fine and successful day in the bush.

WOW- that bush is all growed up. Our leaves are still budding in some trees, 1/2 out in others.
Of course the squirrels here (B.C.) are inedible & protected anyway - fur bearing critters and all.

It's funny Daryl, it almost seems to flourish overnight. It goes from gray and brown to green in the blink of an eye. Makes tracking the squirrels through the treetops a lot more difficult.

It's also crawling with ticks... Pulled 3 of the little demons off of me after I got home. I worry more about the ticks than the copperheads. Surprisingly the mosquitos weren't bad.

Especially deer ticks. Lyme disease is not fun.
