Any plans for a Kibler fowler ?
« on: May 24, 2020, 07:19:53 PM »
I was going to send an e-mail to Jim and ask the question, but it seems to me I have seen some discussion about this here.   Anyway, I'm sure that there are a lot of board members who would be interested in a fowler, so I figured I'd post this  :)

I would like to see a fowler package from Jim’s shop available. Especially 7 lbs or so. Jerry

Watch his videos where he answers peoples questions.  Lots of fowler requests that he answers with his plans for the future.

Yes, Jim address several fowler questions from numerous people, including me.  He talks about his plans concerning a fowler on his recent videos.  Keep your fingers crossed.

I hope it's not a boring 20 bore. Let's  get serious and go 10.

You gotta figure it takes quite a while to come up with a rifle (or smoothbore) design and get It ready for production, especially with the quality that him and Katherine are trying to maintain.  After watching what he’s been doing these last few years, I know he ain’t sitting on his bottom side much.

Whatever it is I plan to order one! But I am with Smylee Grouch, a 38" barrel would be the icing on the cake!

Another vote for a 16gauge 38" barrel. Would make a fine turkey gun.

Hi,
I think an English fowler may be in the works and hopefully it will be consistent with historical examples.  I am confident that Jim will accomplish that very well because he knows what one really looks like.  The real advantage of Jim's kits for a new budding builder (as opposed to a one time assembler and user) is the finished gun will show you the correct architecture and details of the gun it represents.  You can count on Jim getting those details and nuances right and your kit gun can serve as an excellent model for later guns you build from blanks.  This is a huge asset to those who don't have access to original guns for comparison and inspiration.  There ought to be no excuse for botching the lock panels and wrist on your build from a blank if you have a Kibler kit gun in front of you as a guide.

Yes, a fowler will be added to our offernings.  Hopefully this project will be started by the end of the year.  I'm not sure exactly what it will be.   Probably just a really good London made fowling piece from the late 1750's.  If so, I need to get my hands on an original.  Something top notch...   Any leads?

I've also recently seen some really great New England fowlers recently that have piqued my interest.  We'll see...

Not sure about bore sizes either.  I want to make proper thin walled barrels, so there will probably be an ideal bore size and the others might be a bit of a compromise.

Thanks for all the interest!  Sure do appreciate it.

That would be key.  I thought I heard once that Rice was going to and/or did make some fowler barrels out of 4140 to achieve the thin walls that are critical to balancing these fowlers.
