"Bearded bag"
« on: June 14, 2020, 05:17:16 PM »
I have always wanted to do one of these. Got a beat color from the cowhide. I just liberally applied kneedsfoot oil and sat it in the bed of my truck. It turn a brownish purple which at first I didn't like but when it all came together it goes real well together.

Wow...just looking at all that fringe makes my hands cramp up.  :o  Very nice tooling on the flap, too. Lots to like on this one!

Several years ago I also made one of these so I could say I did it and experience the process putting one together.  My choice of leather at the time was a soft, small hide of deer to use for the 'soft' beard, but the color just wasn't right and ended up using the hold hide for the bag for color consistency.  However, as everyone knows, using a soft deer hide can and will stretch.  I countered that by using veg tan cowhide welting that helped keep the hide from stretching from here to Paris, so to speak.  Anyway, it was good looking pouch when I completed and a gentleman from a land far, far away took it home.
Yours looks just fine Corey and I'm sure you had fun putting this together not to mention sore fingers cutting the 'beard out'.
