Hi Folks,

I received a wonderful gift from my friend Walter Hill this weekend, a very finely forged knife with curly maple handles and pewter bolsters. 

I decided to put myself to coming up with a sheath for it, and opted for a buckle-around closure to secure the belt loop.  Narrow sheaths leave little options for securing the belt loop, so this was outside of my normal box.  I had a Richard Lanni cast buckle handy, so I put it to use. 

Nothing fancy otherwise.  4-5 ounce cowhide and welt. 

My photographs do not do Walter's work justice, so I have added one of his photos of the knife.

Thanks guys.  I cannot lay any claim to the buckle you mention as Richard made it.  It was just the right size for my project though, so I was happy to have it at hand. 

There is one related recommendation I can make - if you find things like buckles, buttons, dye, patch material, etc that you like, then "fire for effect" and buy several.  They may not be available the next time you need them.
