Bought old rifle at auction.  There is no markings except for the word HUNTER on lock.  It appears to be before 1900.  From what I found, The HUNTER marking came from a gunsmith in LaPorte IN.  Somewhere in Mid to Late 1800.  That’s all I could find, but not 100% sure if right.  Any help would be appreciated.

Usually any mark on the lock is that of the lock maker, not the gun maker. The triggers look like the parts might be cast, or drop forged, which would make it late nineteenth, or early twentieth century. Poured nose caps on fullstocks are generally Southern features, as is the tailless entry pipe. So if I had to guess I would say it probably from somewhere like Tennessee, or Kentucky.

Is the wiping stick in the bore in place? Some of the old timers would leave a worm and oiled tow in there and it can cause rust after the oil evaporates over time.
