Maybe open it up some, as well.  Would help some with the weight.  Big holes don't weigh anything.   

Regardless, it's been blooded - small game and deer.  Used to own this one, during what I'll call my 'Virginia period' and may still have some photo files of it somewhere.  Don't think it was at all a 'typical' build for Mike Brooks, during that period, but did showcase his capabilities. 

Someone who favors work done by Mike Brooks and is looking for one, should consider making an offer on this longrifle.

If the barrel is heavy enough to go to a .60 cal. I vote .60 cal 1-56 twist or Bobby's gain twist. That would make a fine rifle.

That is a very nice looking piece.  And I would agree a nice pulling to .60 hoyt gain twist would do it a lot of justice.  I've shot against Bob on several occasions while he uses his .60 gain twist rifle and it's deadly on steel bears out at 135 yards.

I have a Dodds rifle with a 50 3/4" barrel in 50cal.  I wish I could own this too.  I would drive right over to Bobbys and have him rifle it.  I would tell him to rifle it in the largest cal he could.  I have a couple 62s and a 60 he did for me.  They are shooters.

It is robust. The buttplate started out life as a Eddie Marshal BP From Chambers. I think 2 1/4" X at least 5"?
