Minwax Wood Hardener
« on: June 26, 2020, 07:59:48 PM »
Cleaning up around the shop, I came across an old can of Minwax Wood Hardener - I don't remember what project I acquired it for.

I put it on some knife scales to check it out - It's water thin, but turns tacky real fast.

Anyone make use of this as a sealer on Gunstocks?

Ok, here’s that question again.  Why would you want to?
I could be all wrong, but stain it with Rit, and finish it with wood hardener, and let’s see what happens.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mike,
Why? Isn’t Rit due, and Minwax anything a gun stock finish?

Likely, somebody has "already been there, done that"

I haven't used a minwax product I've ever liked. I rate them  so/so at best. I've seen too many nice things  made ugly with it.
There's better products available.

Since there are some of the worlds best muzzleloading gunstockers on this forum I'd probably listen and learn and leave it at that.

I used the Minwax Wood Hardener once.......but it was on our front porch steps that had an area of rot.  It's like an epoxy that penetrates the fibers and sets up hard. I wouldn't even wave it over a gun stock.
