Original Buckles

This is my collection of antique buckles ranging from the 18th century back to medieval times. Most were dug in Virginia and some are from connections I have in the UK. I have directly or partially copied many of these by hand fabrication.  I need to get off my duff and start casting some as well.

Yes, there have been a couple of research books out on buckles. It appears some may have been used past the periods given for their introduction.  It's possible they got re-used.

I have a few A-Saxon and Viking age, plus the odd strap -end.

 Wonderful to see! It appears as best as I can tell from the photo, that almost all of these were cast, with few or none being forged like the round center-bar buckles so often offered by period accoutrement dealers today. Would you comment on this please.

These are mostly all cast broze/brass examples. Many were tinned after casting.
There were many, many iron buckles but the ones I've seen were die forged in a form in large production.

That was just mean posting all of those James.   ;-) 

Seriously, if you are casting, I'll buy some from you.  You can never have too many buckles.  Especially in the 1" to 1-1/8" size.
