1980 Rifle by “Willsman”. Any One Remember Him?
« on: June 30, 2020, 09:06:55 PM »
A buddy of mine brought by a flintlock rifle he recently acquired in Ohio. Marked by what looks like “T Willsman - 1980”.  (Although it could be “Willaman”).  Has good parts fitting, a Cochran lock, Douglas barrel, walnut stock, and above average carving and engraving for the period, although not specifically “period” by today’s standards.  (Triggers and guard are lesser quality later replacements).  This was Definitely not the first gun this guy made.  Anyone recognize the name from back in the day?  1960’s to the 80’s working period?.

I like the screw for the moonman’s eye making him look in a calm and submissive state.

I had a similar question with a Lancaster .45 flinter I found for $200 at a shop (unfired).  The bottom of the barrel was stamped "E. Troupe 1983".  Never found anything on the internet or here on ALR about him.  A friend wisely told me that during that time period there were a lot of guys who made one gun or a handful of guns, and that was it.  Sadly, the flinter this fellow built had runout, and it was oriented side-to-side.  Shot 9" left.  The way to get it on paper was hanging the sights way off to the sides.  Good luck with your search.   God Bless,   Marc

Marc, I am sure that Mike Brooks and his tree would have had that flinter shooting straight in no time a'tall!
