Buying powder in Virginia
« on: August 14, 2009, 01:06:00 AM »
I built a rifle for a friend in Prince George County, Virginia and he doesn't know where to buy powder in his area. He is primarily a hunter and not a shooter, so he needs just a couple of pounds at the most. Anyone know of a soource in this area?

I understand there is a place in Winchester that sells all sorts of black powder.  I found them searching on the internet. I bought mine from a man in Strawberry Plains Tennessee.  He got mad when he could not buy any locally.  He built a magazine and bought 1,000 pounds.
Quality, schedule, price; Pick any two.

The Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg sells it. There is  a newer Gander mountain north of Richmond, but I don't know if they sell it.

Bob Moats Sport Shop on Rt 360 West (Hull Street Rd) sells black powder. Probably the closest place to him. Tell him to go I-95 towards Richmond then take Rt 288 north to Rt 360 then East on Rt 360 to Bob's Sport Shop.

If he lives in Prince George he should hook up with the James River BP Club. They used to buy in bulk and then farm it out to members. Great bunch of guys, they shoot at least one a month. POC Wayne Robertson,804-469-3834.
The Gun Rack in Hopewell used to sell it.
