Report from the CLA Show
« on: August 16, 2009, 05:45:43 AM »
Once again, a great show!  My legs are killing me, but I can't get the smile off my face.  Meeting and talking with so many wonderful artists, being invited to handle and inspect so many original rifles and horns, seeing old ALR friends and meeting new ones, picking up so many new ideas.....  I can't wait until next year!

24 pistols by 24 contemporary artists and a short bio on each.  Wow!

A great collection of original Fowlers of several schools.

Tom (Acer) says No, it's not finished yet.... but it's getting there.

Jim Chamber's display of Bivins and other makers.

That silver disc is a quarter!  Yes, these guns function.

Ever seen a tang like this?  Very cool.

Original bag and horn set.  There were 5 original sets on this table, all with woven cloth straps and attached horns.

There's lots more to see than just guns and horns.

-Ron

I've never seen so many "high quality" rifles in the same place. Nor have I seen so many originals in one place. I doubt that there is ever such a collection of top name rifle builders under one roof. It's a humbling experience.

One encouraging thing is the young makers I see at events like this. I am amazed at the young talent I saw this week.

I'm glad to have a chance to talk with all of you ALR guys and all the friends that show up every year. It's fun to catch up with folks and see what everybody's working on.

If there was a down side, it was that one old friend and superb gunmaker wasn't able to attend ths year.

Didn't mean to end on sad note. The CLA show is a remarkable experience!  I have pics to add, but have to dump them to photobucket first.

My frist time to the Lexington Show.Impressed would be an understatment.I am amazed at the selflessness of those who had had displays of great value. The work and risk to bring these guns, swords, horns etc. for educational purpose. To all those who had Historical displays ,Thanks.I also think the contemporary stuff was great. The next time someone says to you ,"that Americans no longer  have any good craftsman ,or don't take pride in their work.Tell them to go to the CLA show in Lexington. The size of the show was much larger than I expected. Thanks to all who made the show work.
