Wanted to share with you all
« on: August 11, 2020, 10:35:20 PM »
Last month I posted photos of a rifle I just purchased, my attempt at a catchy title didn' t generate much interest. But the reason I purchased the old flintlock was to hang in our home as a tribute to that time in our country's history. After many years of research by my wife, my 4th great-grandfather's military service was recognized and I was accepted into the Sons of the American Revolution. This is such an honor for me and my family and one of the high points of my life. I couldn't afford to buy one of the Golden Age, but wanted to have an example of what he may have had to fight with.

That’s really cool you can trace back like that. On my paternal line we’ve got a roadblock at around 1790. Other lines go way back. Nice that he’s remembered in this way.

Congratulations on your  acceptance to Sons of American Revolution.  I went back and looked at your rifle , great rifle.  Would be proud to have that rifle hanging on my wall.  Thanks for sharing.

I remember your post!  That sure was a nice rifle.

Congratulation on joining Sons of the American Revoloution. I joined several years ago. I have 4 Great Grandfathers on my Dad's side. I am pretty sure I have another buried at the Lee family cemetery at Castle's Wood VA need to verify his line. I probably have one on my mothers side but also need to confirm him, am positive his brother was a Patriot.

One thing I have learned is never give up when it comes to genealogy !!! I was begging my wife to just give it up because we had been searching so many years, and that was the day she found the final piece we needed :):):)  There are more and more resources that come to light each year, and you never know when you will stumble upon some very valuable history about your family. We read ALOT !!! We found a photo of my 4th great-grandfather's tombstone with his Revolutionary War marker on it, but it took 4 more years to find the documentation to go with it !!  Stay the course :):):)

That is very cool.  I am very happy for you, and thank you for sharing that.

On my maternal grandmother's side I am related to Lighthorse Harry Lee.  Nothing like being related to the total blacksheep of a family eh?  Energetic in war, and a total get rich schemer in peacetime.....who abandoned his family.  As I once told my girlfriend, being related to Lighthorse Harry, plus $5.00 will get a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

God Bless,  Marc

Documenting your ancestor as a Revolutionary is a great thing.

My wife has been trying to determine where my ggg-grandfather came from, who his parents were, for 30 years.  My dad tried for 30 years before that.  He lived in Mills River, NC and that's all we know.  But I bought a Gillespie rifle this year to commemorate that his decedents supposedly worked with them, and we're related too.
