Another Painted Horn
« on: August 14, 2020, 07:34:58 PM »
This one is about 16" around the outside curve and 13" tip-to-tip. The butt is right at 2", it is Cherry, threaded 1/2-6, the collar is attached to the horn with four iron pins. The tip is two part antler pined together with three iron pins and to the horn with three more. The ring/strap holder is also held with three. The horn has a base coat of Buttermilk Milk paint on it and then Carla took over. Look close at the center of the last Pic just to the right of the collar and you will see where she signed and dated it, I have no idea how she can paint that small.
If you click on a Pic then click the "+" symbol the Pix seem to look better.

It’s exquisite Tim. Thank Carla for me and thank you. My 11th piece of Crosby Horn and third with Carla’s art on it, is a real work of art. It was quite a chore sending Harriette the pics from up on the roof this morning but she absolutely loves it! Glad to be down from there. Metal roofs are slick...

By the way, all she requested was one like your last one but with some purple among the flowers. The yellow in there as well is genius. Love it. Oh, and your horn work is pretty good too.

Man, the Crosby family sure has talent.  Love it.

Bob, I am mighty partial to your house too.  Looks like some of the beautiful architecture in Louisiana where the house shelters under the roof for some shade.

If I ever get to building my own design, it'll look a lot like that.  I have designed several houses for folks, but never one I've lived in.

God Bless,   Marc

Hey Marc, that’s Momma’s house. Dad and I built it over the course of 2.5 years, finished about 4 years ago. It’s on one of our little fields by the creek here on the farm. It is a beautiful place.

In this case, period correct is irrelevant.  It falls under “high art”.

It’s period correct. And then painted to taste. As was done in the period.

That is a nice combination of horn and brush work.
Dubious artisan, semi-literate writer, pretend photographer, woeful speaker, impractical dreamer, hoarder of distractions, purveyor of irrelevance, connoisseur of whimsy, prolific starter, paltry finisher.

Bob, I also like that Carolina rain porch you have there.  That was an architectural feature taken west from this area.

You're right Bob, and they popped up in the deep south in Louisiana, Mississippi and other areas.  I love the look.  I imagine a graceful lady sheltering under a parasol.  Those deep porches were considered living space in some areas, and kept the sun off of the walls too.  I'll bet your porch does that too.
