Honestly after looking at two of his kits bought by people I know Chambers is probably the best bet.

First i would like to ask , what type of rifle do you want to build ? That would give a idea of who makes that type of kit . As for kits , Jim Chambers is more of a kit , that is all the correct parts are matched for the stock pat. "Kits" like Track of the Wolf and Pecatonica can be more mixed , or parts swaped. Most of the stocks in Track are from Pecatonica. You also can get a stock from other carvers and use what ever parts you would like . So the type of rifle will be helpfull.

I would not forget about Tip Curtis. He has a lot of different kinds of styles that others don't.  Also has guns in the white.

I get barrels from T. Curtis. He usually has them.

But have not seen his other stuff but folks seem to speak highly of the kits and guns.

Mike Brooks doesn't just build fowlers, longrifles and mountain guns, but has kits also!  He has some nice pieces currently in inventory and on consignment.

I'd encourage anyone interested in a kit or a finished piece to drop-in to his site and have a look-see.

Here's a nice kit from Brad Emig:

It seems to be based on #132 in Rifles of Colonial America. I built one last year and liked it.

Tip doesn't have a website nor a real catalog.  You pretty much have to go to his shop or catch him at one of the shows to see the kits he sells.

If you fancy a Southern gun based on a specific original, then Mike Brooks' F. Klette styled rifle is a nice choice.

The "Cumberland" is a sort of brand name one maker offers and does not describe any original I know of.  Similarly, many folks offer an "early colonial" rifle w/o making it at all clear what they are basing it on.  They are good guns, don't get me wrong.  It's just a question of whether or not you feel the need to have a gun based on specific original styles.  That doesn't make them shoot or carry any better!

I'll second Chambers kit's although I've heard good stuff about Tip Curtis and Mike Brooks builds a fine gun.  Looking at his website there appears to be a bit more work in his kit than Chambers.
