A Virginia Screw Tip

This horn is similar to two horns in Jay Hopkins' book "Bone Tipped & Banded Horns Pt I" pages 70-71 and 196-197. Both thought to have come from the same shop in Virginia. Neither has the staple in the neck but I added one.
It is about 14 1/2" around the outside curve and 11" Tip-to-Tip. The butt is Walnut held in place by the four Iron pins that also retain the band. The finial is a furniture pull. The tip is horn threaded 5/8-11 as is the horn, the collar is a press fit retained by one leg of the staple. Color is dye heated and quickly wiped off, finished by Brown shoe polish. The dye brings out some neat grain in the horn.

Now that is just plain classy. The colors work together beautifully, and I love your turning work. Someone is getting a beauty. God Bless, Marc

Tim,
Your finishing process really made the grain in the horn pop. Lots of eye appeal going on here.
