First Build From A New Guy
« on: September 08, 2020, 01:48:29 PM »
Well, I've browsed this forum for quite some time and used a lot of the great information you folks post to build my first rifle (definitely not the last!). It's a .50 colonial kit from Jim Kibler. As long as I can get a tag over the counter I plan to hunt with it this fall.

I think you started out the right way and ended up with a fine rifle to boot.

I have done a couple of plank builds, one Kibler SMR and one very old TC kit. The old TC kit was so rough it was actually harder to build and make it look nice than the Kibler, I removed a ton of wood from the TC.

I'd like to see closer pictures but that is a really great color.  Fantastic!

I see ZERO flies on the rifle. Well done.

Thanks! (Have to admit I'm not sure what the flies comment means but I'll take it as a compliment haha)

Kibler kits are a great way to start..Wish they would have had these 50 years ago...I might have learned something sooner..

Thanks guys! And yeah this is obviously my only experience with building one so far but it's pretty hard to imagine starting with anything else!

I'm so glad I chickened out of this project, and that you picked it up and finished it out so beautifully.  ;) It's definitely a rifle you should be proud of. When I finally get around to one of my own, you can expect me to bug you for some help.

That's the problem with building one! You have to build more!
