Group of Horns

I have been trying to reduce the amount of stuff I have...but I couldn't pass up these horns. Bought them from a woman who was clearing out her fathers estate. The 2 biggest ones are quite large at 19 3/4 and 19 1/2 inches along the curve....medium sized 2 are 14 1/2 and 15 1/2...then 12 and 11 and the two smallest are 7 1/2 and 6 inches. I thought folks would like to see them...I know I always do.

This is a whole collection of powder horns. Pretty nice find and we thank you for posting them for viewing. Horns with brass tacks are always welcome. Any side stories to tell with these?

Can you tell us what state the lady's father, who collected these horns, lived in? Based on spout tips, there seems to be more Eastern horns here than Midwest.  Shelby Gallien

He had a strong connection to the Northeast. He was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. As a young man attended trade school and worked his way up to be president of a tool manufacturing company that had locations in Quebec and Vermont. He bought a home in Vermont which would remain his home base for the rest of his life even as he owned homes in other places where he lived due to work. It's the kind of home that has a name. He then was president of a tool company in Mass and had a home there as well. His last position before retiring was as president of a company in Ohio and he lived there for a short time. 

I have been really busy and while I have looked all of these horns over closely multiple times...I just spotted something this morning that I had not noticed before. I was literally brushing my teeth and holding up one of the horns at a certain angle with only the light from the nearby window and saw writing...very faint...but quite a lot of it...multiple lines...etc!  This particular horn is in pretty rough shape. I had looked it over at least half a dozen times before and not seen it. I literally had to put the horn down 2 minutes after the discovery and head to work. It could be pretty interesting trying to figure out what it says...pretty sure I saw a name at the top!

Man those are really nice! I really like the medium sized one with the ring for the horn strap attachment...
