Peter Gonter and RCA #70 comparison
« on: September 22, 2020, 06:05:55 PM »
The last post about the possible Lancaster attribution and the comments, got me thinking about Peter Gonter.  Below is a comparison of tang carving between a signed "P. Gonter" with a walnut stock, and Shumway's unsigned RCA #70.  George Shumway attributed #70 to Dickert, but I think that RCA #70 has the same hand in carving as the signed piece, and is made by Gonter.

I thought so too. Sometimes the collector who owns the piece is convinced and this impacts what is published. I’ve seen this many times. And that’s ok. They are just attributions.
