York - Schroyer
« on: September 25, 2020, 03:42:03 AM »
It’s often said on this site. “You can’t stop at one” and thus, I present my #3.
A York, in George Schroyer’s style.

The gun is 58” overall. The Rice ‘A’ barrel makes for a nice light gun.  The components are a mix of Chambers, and my own fabrications.  The Schroyer patch box latch design confirms the importance to get the positions of the latch, the catch, and the dog legs in the push rod marked out correctly, before picking up the tools.

I like both aged and new looking contemporary guns. On this one I decided to try for the look of “just leaving the bench”.

I openly welcome any comments, advice, or criticism.

Richard

Wow, for a third build that is MIGHTY FINE!  You appear to be well accomplished and disciplined in all phases of the build process. What's next?

Incredibly nice! I've built two, and I wouldn't even show them to you after seeing that. Far more talent than I have.

Richard,
Just gotta add my 2c.... very nice in all aspects. Carving, finish on both metal and wood, very much better than my third, $#*!, better than my tenth.

Fantastic gun, you nailed the carving and engraving. It's a good thing that you didn't age this gun or it could be mistaken for an original. George Schroyer is my favorite maker and you can be proud of the work you have done!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all your feedback.
Of course, I’m already planning the next several. Its hard to narrow down when there are so many great ones to study. I want to try something with an animal carving, either a Beck or an Oerter. Also, one must do a John Bonewitz.

Thanks Mike,
I think in my other life I was shoveling coal. :)
Building as a business would take the fun out of what I'm learning. But, I can also see building and keeping for myself will have limits. I think I would be happy where someone asks, "can you build me a (.....)".
