October 2020 Covid Postal Match
« on: October 01, 2020, 05:42:32 AM »
So fellows, here it is.  25 yards offhand or standing, your choice & any calibre 5 shots.  There must be 1/2 ball inside the line to score that value.
Shoot either or both bulls, total 5 shots on the target total.
The target is a groundhog, but due to the size, lets say he's a young eating-size ground hog.  I expect more than one 50/50, & perhaps 4 or 5X.
I right clicked on the target, then clicked on "save image as" & posted it on my desk top. There, I right clicked on the target and then clicked on print.
There should be just over a 1/4" (.280") clear border all the way around the lined page. The 10 rings are 2 in diameter. While this should likely
be a 50 yard target, we will shoot it at 25 yards. (100 for those who "pace" their game shots ;))
Further, I haven't decided on the prize as of yet but will advise at a later date.

Edited 4 targets for entry!

Exited: here's the prize. Appears to be 2" to 3" short of 2 yards square of 10 ounce denim. My new calipers
measures it at .021" and the older ones, at .0225".
It measures, as closely as I can tell, uncompressed, at .030".
It is already washed twice, very soft and loads easily, about as easy as .018" ticking.
As for value - this stuff costs $22.00 per meter here - thus there is well over 1 3/4 meters of material here
and likely, if one doesn't shoot much, will last a year or more. ;) This material will work in about
all rifles, with either .005" or .010" smaller ball of dead soft lead, or in smoothbores
if the ball is .025" smaller than the bore.  It works in ALL of my guns with the appropriate
ball.

Gee Daryl I really like that target. However is that target copyright protected?

Well I printed one any way. Followed your directions. For some reason like the previous target, my image is a little smaller. The ten ring on mine is 5cm. Close enough.

Re groundhog target size:  Instruct your printer to scale it [up] to fit a standard (8.5" x 11") sheet of paper or else you'll get a small, mouse sized image. (Don't ask....!).

5cm = 1.968" & that is the measurement from inside the white line of the 10 ring, side to side.

I'll get my daughter to help.  I have 6 tiny sized copies now  :)     I'm definitely lacking in computer skills, although I did to my best ability follow the directions.   I still had the fun of using punch cards back in school, and remember the "telex " machine with it's punched tape .  Then we actually had a photocopy Department !    Those were the days !    ;D

I saw nothing of copy writing on the picture or site when I up/down loaded it & I'm not selling
them, but with the named target, I am promoting them & their targets, free of charge.

I will start this off. Taylor and I went out today and shot a few targets. Not so good.
I shot a 29, a 34, a 37, a 38 1X & a 47 1X
I am not competing in this even, btw, as it's my shoot.

When I put a ball in the hole of the low 10, the lines dissect the sprue perfectly.

And here's my best effort today.  I often forget to advise the powder charge with the important data, so in this case I used an antler measure that throws 72 gr. FFg GOEX.
there seems to always be one ball that will not stay with its friends....must practice more, I think.

That is fine shooting Taylor. Daryl those are good groups, just not where you want them. Wish either of my brothers liked to shoot.

I got a younger person to print mine.  Success at last !    I get along just fine with mechanical clocks, and fountain pens, but electronics ....not so much  :)

Muskrat, it is gravity that makes your lights turn on.  Until gravity was discovered, and then figured how it works, there were NO electric lights.

Had one of my best shooting days yet. Amazing how much better you can see the targets now that the forest fires are all but totally contained. I scored them the best I could but am deferring to the official scorer for final score. On the first target I was trying to shoot my "fouler" completely off the target but hit the upper portion. You're just going to have to believe that was a fouling shot and not for score. Of all my rifles this Jim Kibler built rifle is the most accurate rifle I own.
I forgot to write on the targets my load was 40 grains of Goex 3F.
Even the 'ol "Muskrat" gets lucky once in a while.
The little pieces of tape you see on the targets are from when I overlaid a piece of pale yellow paper over the center so I could actually see the 10 ring. No one said you couldn't but if anyone thinks this gave me an advantage then don't score my targets.
