Hunting/Signal Horn

  It is about 17" tip-to-tip and 3 at the bell. The band at the bell is held by three Copper rivets. The mouth piece is made up of two pieces of horn screwed together and turned as one then screwed onto the horn, 5/8-11. The band is held by three iron pins. Kind of neat graining so I left it kind of light.

Nice one, Tim!  About how big is the hole through the tip?  I’m assuming it’s larger than a usual powderhorn?  I have a pretty large horn I might try to turn into a hunting horn...just because. I was actually thinking of using an antique bugle or trumpet mouthpiece.

Looks like you started with a wonderful horn for the body and your work did it justice.  Very nice.

Tim, very nice looking horn and well done.  The style and color speaks to me of what a well simple, but very usable tool should be.  Well done again Tim.

  Greg, the hole started out as 1/4" but I used a reamer to open it up a bit.

 Thanks for the positive comments. These horns are not real popular but the horn was to nice to cut down to Powder horn size. Thinking about drillinf a couple of holes at the bell for a strap.

How does she sound? I had a couple of hounds growing up and I used a calling horn in my attempt to train them. Used to blow that horn "dash dot dot dot" every breakfast and dinner. They seemed to figure out that it was dinnertime alright, but out in the field, nothing would make them break off a scent short of an earthquake. I'd have to run and try and catch em or just wait a few days for them to get hungry and return to the house themselves. LOL

 I can't do much with it. I have made others and people have gotten sounds out of them that I would not have expected. Had a guy at an outdoor show once ask if he could try the one I had on the table. He played a few notes that sounded like a real horn. As he handed it back to me he said, "I'm a professional Trumpet player." A couple hours later he came back and bought it.
