My current project will be heavily influenced by the the Vogler family of the Salem school of gunsmiths.

I like Vogler. I have built a couple guns with Vogler eagles on them. Look forward to seeing the finished gun.

Well the beavers have been busy and have the butt stock rough shaped. I ran into a few worm holes and will have to make a repair. I new this piece was going to have a few worm holes but the fine and consistent stripping was worth the gamble.

You got that shaped up quickly! I thought I took off wood fast! Looks good. I’m sure it will be stunning.

Same tree as the blank I got from you for my John Bull? Looks very close.

Paul this blank is out of the same tree that your Bull rifle blank was cut from. It has a very tight stripping and I have saved this blank for this project. The barrel is a 48" long 54 cal FCI and the lock is a Chamber's late Ketland.The triggers are modified Davis small triggers and the trigger guard and butt plate are Reeve's. I think it is going to be a great handling rifle when it is done.

Dave, doing well. Thanks. Took Jim’s October class to start a McKee inspired rifle. Saw the eagle patchbox Masonic Mountainmen Rifle in progress. Simply gorgeous work. Photos don’t do it justice. I expect this Vogler will be the same.

Jim, thanks. I thought it looked familiar! That blank was a joy to work. I like the worm holes - add character. I’m thinking of sending the Bull to get re-bored to a larger caliber. It is a heavy beast.

Here is a update on the Vogler progress. I got the barrel lugs made and installed and the wedge slots cut and wedges made. I made the ram rod pipes and got those installed today. I have the forestock rough shaped and will slim it up more tomorrow. Then on to the toe plate and patch box. Working hard to get it done.

to finish this rifle. I have to deliver this rifle before Thanksgiving to a customer. I had a late start due to some illness in the family so I have kicked it into high gear on this one.

Well did not get as far along as I wanted to today but still got in a good lick. I got the nose cap made, fit and installed. I finished shaping the fore stock down to almost final shape. I will finish the shaping after carving the fore stock molding. I got the locks bolts drilled and tapped. Hopefully tomorrow I will make the side plate and toe plate and get them installed and get the wrist shaped down to get ready for carving.
