Another Leather Covered Horn (#3)

 This is a rather large horn at 16" around the outside curve and 12 tip-to-tip. The Dogwood butt is about 3", there were a couple of worm holes in it, one went all the way through. So I sealed one end of the hole with tape and poured Pewter in it then turned it. The other was a blind hole so I put a small brad in it to hold the Pewter and filled it. I tried to get a Pic of each. The finial is threaded 1/2-1-6. The butt is secured with the 10 Brass tacks. The two part tip is treaded together and to the horn then glued. The cover is deer skin, soaked in water, stretched to fit and saddle stitched.
 The Pewter spots can be colored if wanted.

If real pewter it will darken itself. If the new stuff it will stay bright. You could always tell folks that the wood had round balls in the wood!

  Yea but...That is old pewter, I only buy old pieces, cups, bowls, noggins, etc... so I can see how it colors as it ages. So folks don't want to wait so I help it along.

That might be your coolest leather covered horn yet.  I think you got the knack for these o' moderator.   :-) 

The red color came out great, and I like the screw-out finial on the butt.  Really nice work buddy.

 It is stained with some old stuff. I can't throw anything away so when I get close to the bottom of a can of stain I dump it in with some other leftovers based on light or dark.
