A few accoutrements....odds and ends
« on: November 17, 2020, 12:15:43 AM »
Been busy with a lot of things but have had the time to make a few items for others.....

New ebony handled pick and whisk set.....

Another whisk with an antler handle.......

Two sterling silver flintlock money clips.......

And an olive wood bullet board......

I'm just in awe of your craftsmanship with each new item you make.  One of these days, when I am able, I hope to add some of your accouterments to my flintlock gear.  Keep up the good work!

Beautiful work, Dave!  I love those pick and whisk sets...just don’t have a rifle fancy enough to warrant a set!

Crisp work as usual Dave.  Have you considered doing a similar piece with a brass pick?  I like softer metal for picking the touch hole to prevent wallowing out issues.  The cover you've made for the pick would certainly minimize any bending of a soft metal pick itself.

To all...thanks for the kind words.

Marcruger......Yes, I can make the pick out of brass or copper.  With my own set I don't worry about wallowing out the vent as most of the length of the tapered pick is less than 1/16 inch in diameter.  So, unless it is pried far off to one side or the other, it is too small in diameter to do any damage to the vent.  The advantage in having it made out of hardened steel is that I use it as an awl even more often than as a vent pick.

Best to all
