Better trigger guard on the Po boy

Hello yall. As I now have a truck load of Bean style guards, I have no excuse for not having a proper guard on the poboy I built last year.
I have been trying to sell it on Guns international.
I rekkin time to spif him up a mite.
Using one of the better guards, I fit it and did some decorative file work.
I like the look much better. Please pardon the phone pics.
What do yall think?

Sure is a nicely figured piece of walnut. Guard looks good, are you going to colour it?

Hi Daryl, this is the Spalted maple I built end of last year. Nasty mean a   d wood to work. Yep, I am going to color it like the rest of rifle, cold blue rubbed back. I like the look of it too. I appreciate your comment. Keep warm up there,bro. Dave F 8) 8)

I've always liked that guard, Dave,... best shaped cast guard on the market,... have you tried to close the loop on the back of the grip rail,..?? ... always wondered if they would break,... being cast, should it  be bent cold, or with heat, and to what color,...?? ... looks great,... !!! ... regards,..  ;) ;)... that looks great, Dave,... the Gross family of Sullivan Co. gunmakers used an open loop, and some others made a similar style, but most of the makers of Unicoi County used a closed loop,... I like that look the best,.... did you heat to close the loop, and how hot,...? .. any sign of breaking,..?

Yes, I got it as red as my mapp gas would,and using a small ballpeen worked it over.. I think there is a very small crack on the top of the bow,maybe a oxy acetelen torch with muchofar do it better.
I may over the winter modufy some of these guards and sell.
As it is, I am going to get a grab bag of guards so others can torture theyselves. Something like 10 of these second and defective guards for 20 bucks or so.
You sure know how to find the old Tennessee rifles.
Can you walk past a big magnet?

 :-X :-X :-X... I wish I could find others as I did this last one,... let me know if you can get a pretty smooth guard that you can bend a closed loop in without breaking,... I will take it,... Thanks bro. Too much going on here at that time.
I will keep you in mind. I have a long slim cm stock coming from Pecatonica to build a Bean rifle. I have set of Myron Carlson furniture to use, a Bill Large barrel.
Btw, the Carlson stuff is labeled Bean bear tree rifle.
What is that about?

The guard is a good choice, and I like it, but I would like to have seen the 'fore and aft' finials inlet flush with the stock, rather than just screwed down to the wood.  Probly just me.

I beveled the edges down so no sharp edges. I may still inlet em deeper, but at the time I finished this up I was beginning chemo and radiation. Doing good now, but 1st half of this year was tough.
This wood is so HARD I just plain ol got tired of fighting it. :-*

 I do feel great. Lost 70lbs is needed to loose.
What a ride for sure.
I have seen some old poboys that the trig guard was not inlet.
I like this guard better than the strap iron one.

Dave, that's "Boone Tree" rifle I think. Ron Borron has a set of drawings for it that may have the story.
I believe the stock for the original came from a tree Boone carved on. Others here will certainly know for sure.
