Small Siler percussion lock question....
« on: November 24, 2020, 05:29:21 PM »
Does anyone know what size drill bit and tap to use for the drum on a small Siler?   Same question for the nipple......Thanks in advance.

That will depend on the drum you use.  Can be ⅜ or 5/16, or ½” .  Nipples are usually ¼”x28.
For bit and tap sizes, I download a tap and drill chart off the internet, print it, laminate it and hang it over my bench.
Hope that helps.

I received them with pistol kits from Pecatonica and to my knowledge there were no sizes listed or directions given for tap/drill sizes.  I'll figure it out.   Thanks.

The lock determines the diameter of the drum, but drums of the same diameter can have different threads on the section that goes into the barrel. You need to look at the drum to determine what thread it is.

I use a drum with 5/16's by 24 thread. This takes a letter drill and it is "G".

Thanks all.  I called Pecatonica and they told me that it's a 5/16"X24 drum tap and that requires an "I" or .272 drill bit (not sure that I have one) and that the nipple requires a 1/4"X28 tap and that requires a #3 drill bit.   Sound right?

That agrees with my old Starrett handbook.
