Scurlock Publishing brought out its newest book at the CLA show titled "Powder Horns: Documents of History," by Tom Grinslade (ISBN 978-1-880655-23-8). They had some hardback special editions ($80) and soft cover editions ($40) at the show, and seemed to moving them all pretty well. It's 170 pages are packed with color images of powder horns primarily from Tom's private collection, featuring American powder horns from the 1720s through the 1840s. The color photos of the horns are excellent. For the John Bush fans out there, like me, two Bush horns that have never been photographed very well in publication are in the book. Tom also devoted a chapter each to PA screwtips and Southern banded horns. Another chapter features several Tansel horns from Tom's collection. It's all good stuff. If you're a serious horn collector or maker and don't have a copy, this is a must have book.
