variation of a daisy patchbox?
« on: December 06, 2020, 03:25:27 PM »
Does anyone recognize this variation of a daisy patchbox?  I have not seen one with the added part on the flower.  The cheek rest is interesting, also.

Cshirsch,

Some more pictures would be nice - stock architecture would help ID it. Looks like the comb was taken down a bit.

I seen that gun at auction recently .  I almost bid on it, just for the patchbox.  I really like it.  I thought the patchbox looked like something out of Virginia.  Hope somebody knows something about it.  Thanks for posting.

I agree, it could be a southern made rifle.  I won that auction.

Cool,  guess there is no remnants of signature?

I won't know until I get it in my hands.

I have seen a similar patchbox on a rifle from the Rowan Svhool in North Carolina.

Per Michael's comment, there's an Isaac Ribelin rifle shown in the Nov issue of Muzzle Blasts, under Jim Whisker's installment.  The Ribelin finial looks more like a liberty cap on top of a possible daisy?  But we need to see more of the rifle - mounts, triggers, any carving, beavertails, etc. to make some guesses.

You very definitely got a bargain.

Chris, thanks for all the photos.  I'm more confused now than ever, but here's a bizarre, quick reaction.  The lock and trigger remind me of Chief's grade trade guns from 1812 war, and the fullness of forend also.  Maybe an English trade rifle from that period . . . Ha! I'm sure someone will find a good maker or region for you.  Bob

Chris,

I like it - I’m with blienemann, I don’t know what to make of it.
