New Old Allen Martin Rifle Added To The Stable
« on: December 29, 2020, 02:06:05 AM »
A few month ago I picked a dusty old .45 cal rifle Allen built back in 2002 for a feller in NYS. Though the rifle itself was perfect the bore was about shot out and I got it for a song. (Actually for exactly what Al sold it for new as the feller thought that was fair considering). Well, the barrel's back from Freischutz in shiney new .50 cal duds and it's good as new and now a svelt 7lbs which is perfect for my wife a Woodswalk gun and for me another deer gun. The bag directly to the right goes with the gun. The horn is one Tim Crosby made and Carla Crosby painted for her.

Center rifle. It looks a bit stubby surrounded by two of my 46" barreled guns but the barrel is 42".

Thanks fellers. Mike, during hunting season there's always one or two loaded and I keep them off to the side with a range rod in the bore.

Bob

I only see 5 long rifles there.   What is up with that?    Stoner has you beat by a long shot.   You got to quit selling them off.

Heck, even I have two flinters.   With a stable full of percussion guns.

Lol. That’s not all of them. The ones up just fit the best in the tight display. Eric Kettenburg has the scraped gun I may never see again and Al Martin has another of mine. Two loaded on my bench and one hanging vertically on the side of the main display. Then my percussion guns. He definitely has me beat by a mile. No doubt.

I was starting to feel sorry for you.

However I have been in the brown water tonight, part of my Christmas present from my boss (wife).

I still remember when I met Allen at an Old Westmoreland show many years back.  I had no idea who he was.  But those rifles he had there caught my eye and I have seen a lot of great guns since, but none nicer.
He sure builds a good looking rifle.  We call it "the look".

He does indeed.

Mike, It’ll be a minute before the museum. Between Pop and I both we don’t have a quarter that many, including all the plinkers. A man can dream though...

That's a very attractive rifle, Bob!

Lovely colour to the wood.
It just begs to be picked up and took out...

Very nice acquisition, Bob, and getting it at 2002 prices just makes it all the more sweet!  Congrats, and great job avoiding a waiting list!

Lol. Thanks Greg. I do enjoy beating a waiting list but two of the three AM's I have have been bought from Al directly and 75% of my other's are likewise bought from the builder, as I do like doing that when I can.
