I like this target Bob.  I used my S. Hawken percussion rifle again for this first target.

My first five were all touching or in the X ring, which all but obliterated the centre making my next shot rather chancy.  It went low at 6 o'clock, out of the group.  So I put up a bud on the centre (1 1/8" black disc of card stock) and fired my 7th round.  I also went low at 7 o'clock.
I scored this target 50 3X, but of course, you have the final word.
With the whole month ahead of us, I expect to see some really dandy targets...hope some are mine.

Just remembered I Do have a percussion rifle.  barrel chopped at about 25 " though.....
Might try that as well!

Taylor,
That target is discouraging to a lot of us.   Please try harder to shoot worse!

Exactly - told you it's been difficult to beat him since he had his cataracts fixed. ::) ::) ::)
Guess I have to cast some more balls for the .69, just to have a chance on this one. 2 now tied at 3X.
BTW- we switched rifles for one target  - ;D ;D - that was funny - NOT. WE both shot worse.
I should also note, he was far from easy before he got his eyes, fixed.

Is it too late for a new guy to jump in?  I have some kids that might be interested too.  Would they need to have their own subscriptions to ALR?

It's never too late to join in this match. The whole point of it is to get folks here out and shooting.
As far as your kids are concerned, are we talking "kids" or 35 year olds who normally don't have any interest in this site ?    Just wondering .

Kids as in my 17 yr old son and a friend or two.  Possibly my 14 yr old daughter and maybe a 23 yr old daughter.  I tried a mail-in shoot on another forum and their rules were for members only.  It was a bit of a pain getting minors registered.

Just printed up some targets. I will start with my smoothbore, since I have a muzzleloading Javelina hunt coming up in February.
I will probably do most of my shooting with it until then.

After much contemplation, in fairness to all, I'm going to come down on the side of members only.
This is and has been a friendly, member sponsored match.  Hopefully your kids and friends will still shoot along with you just for the fun of it .

First rifle...CVA Hawken, 50 caliber, .490 ball, .015 patch.  5 shots for a 48.  Second rifle GPR .54 caliber, .530 ball, .015 patch.  5 shots for a 47.  Great day to shoot here in Tennessee.  Don't see me improving so I'll submit my 48 and be happy.

And don't forget you have an opportunity to fire 7, not five shots, and take your best five.  I'm only counting 5 shots on each target.

Thank you.  Wasn't sure how to score the X.  Great match and target.  Wish more in my area would shoot long rifles but there is so little interest here.  I'm jealous of those clubs out west and in the north and northeast.  Would love to make it to Friendship if things ever return to normal.

If I’m scoring this correct it’s a 50?  Looks like I was trying to avoid the X

Nice, Tony, I shot a couple of those today.
Both targets have 7 shots in them. They are worse than
what I've already posted, so not for score, just to show we (Taylor and I) got out today.
The one on the right is likely a 1X. might be 2X or 3X but hard to tell, with both being 50/50.
The 9 on the left-hand target was my 7th shot.

Was going to go tomorrow. Not sure I want to after seeing those targets. Just kidding I'll get out there between rain storms this week or next to embarrass myself as usual.

Daryl.  I blew up ...sorry, poor choice of words. I enlarged your target, and using my overlay for various size balls, I pretty confident in calling the right hand target a 50 2 X

Tks bob- the top hole and left hand holes appear "in", but - it will take a 4X to win.
Long way to go, but I did cast up some more fodder for the cannon. ;D

Daryl, and anyone else shooting large bore guns , rifled or smoothbore;  it may be advantageous to utilize two target copies, with 4 shots on one and 3 on the other which should help in the X verifications.   Clearly this match has seen and will see many scores of 50 +  so it's the X's that will determine a win.

I was thinking the same thing, Bob - ie: using 2 targets.

I got out and shot my .62 smoothbore. I shot two targets but I'm only submitting one. It was a pretty day, temps in the high 40s.
It was very bright.
My first target I tried shooting as is , That was ok but the mirage got so bad on the third shot I couldn't see center. So I placed a spotter or "bud" and continued shooting.
That first target wasn't bad but not as good as the one I am posting.
I was using 80 grains of 2f Goex, .600 wheel weight balls, and JoAn's #40 cotton Drill lubed with bear oil.
I took photo in the shade since it was so bright I could't see screen. Light shined through the  holes.

First two shots were in the upper right quadrant, third was just of 6 o'clock. The 4th was the X the fifth was the 9 at 3 o'clock. the 6th was the 10 at 9 o'clock. The last shot was the other 9.
I score it a 50 with one X.
I will try to shoot this again with the smooth bore, though I doubt I will better my score. I hopefully get to shoot at it with one of my rifles.

This is just a clarification question on the rules for the smoothbore match...I am assuming that no rear sight is allowed, Bob...is this correct?
