Glad you got some shooting in, Mike. Lots of time left to improve your scores.
I thought an aiming bud would be necessary for me and made up some 1" squares, however
with a black and white printer, I can see the diamond aiming spot just fine. It is a little bit small,
but I've found the smallest target spot you can "still" make out, will give you the tightest group.
I believe it is in part, a psychological thing with bullseyes that are too large. In psychological
aspect of it is similar to when shooting at a large target instinctively with a bow. When you have
as large aiming spot, your group will also be large.
Aim small, miss small comes to mind.
With this in mind, I am thinking a 4" or almost 4" circle is way too large for 25 yard shooting. Just
as suggestion, so please take it for what it cost.

After much contemplation, in fairness to all, I'm going to come down on the side of members only.
This is and has been a friendly, member sponsored match.  Hopefully your kids and friends will still shoot along with you just for the fun of it .

Well, yeah that's what they do anyway.  I guess I'll pass on it then.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile. After a week of wind and rain yesterday was a nice day with no wind so I went to the range and shot a few targets offhand. here are two that I am willing to post. #1 looks to me like a 50 3X or 4X I will let the judge decide. #2. I call a 50 2X. I quit using the bigger bores as they are all sighted for 50 or 100 yards. Squirrel distance use a a squirrel gun. This is from my Don Bruton made Mathew Gillespie rifle. Probably won't be able to repeat this again no matter how hard I tried. Our range faces south which is the one direction you don't want it to face as the sun puts glare on the rifle obstructing the sights. I just showed up at 8:30AM and had shade on my sights. Made a big difference. I printed 1 target in color and one in black and white. I thought I could see the black and white one better but I guess not.

WOW Mike - pretty nice. Sure looks like 4X's to me.
Taylor and I shot our 20 bore smoothies today.
Took me 2 targets to find the centre. Yeah - a very lucky 4 in the middle.
Data on the targets.
Left one could be a 50 3X - maybe.
It's supposed to be above freezing until Wed. so might get out again.

My second smoothbore target:  same firearm - Chambers' Pennsylvania fowler, but different load - ie:   20 gauge, shooting .595" pure lead ball, .020" denim cotton patch lubed with machine cutting oil/water 1:10 ratio, and 86 gr. Goex FFg (Goex 3Fg for prime)...Rich Pierce river rock flint...25 yds offhand as before.

Upon examining this target again, on the computer screen, I concede to a score of 50 2X with Bob having final word naturally.

I got out today and gave it a shot. I just changed out my sights to try something new. Took off my wider front blade and buckhorn rear and put on a narrow front, and typical  Pennsylvania rear sight.  This is with my flintlock 45 rifle. 35 grains of Goex fffg, .440 ball, .018 ticking lubed with 10-1 water/ballistol.  After getting the sights adjusted I only had time for one target.  There's 7 shots on it, and I think the best 5 are 50 2x. I might get out again, but we have a cold front moving in soon. Supposed to be -22 next week.

Daryl and I got out to the range again today, he with his 20 bore smoothie and I with my 20 bore rifle.  Mike has raised the bar, so I had to try to at least tie him.  So I did.  After my first five shots, I had no centre aiming point, so I elected to use a second target, so between the two, I accumulated 4 X's for a 50 4X score.
I had trigger/lock issues following this target, so elected to bring her back to the bench for some adjusting...my triggers (homemade) wouldn't fire the lock (Roller), and when I took them out of the stock, I found that the mainspring machine screw had backed out a half turn and the spring didn't have enough jam to trip the sear...it does now.

So here are the two targets for this submission...

This time around I have no submissions, but might in a day or so.  :D
That first target of Taylor's was amazing- 5 shots on it. The 2 on the left of the bull, were
#4 and #5. The other 3 were all in the centre of the dot (2 in the centre, one centred in the right side diamond's point.

That is awesome shooting !  As solid a 50 4X as I have ever seen .

Taylor has been on fire with both rifle and smooth bore.
I went out yesterday and shot three targets with my smoothbore. I matched my first submission on two targets unfortunately the one I shot 2Xs on only scored a 49.  So I will have to go back and try again.

Well, I got out one more time for the month before the Arctic front comes in a few days. I wasn't shooting that well today, but we all have our days.  Looks like 50 2x is the best for me this month.  This is with my .45 flintlock.

That is some very good shooting , Justin.  50 2X is nothing to sneeze at.   There's still over a week left, so , perhaps the weather will warm up.  :)

Minus 5 looks pretty nice from where we are right now  :)   Minus 5 and some sun would see a lot of folks getting their maple syrup stuff ready !

Yeah, it's a pretty nice range.  We have out to 450 yards to shoot,  with steel swingers at 200, 300, 400. And it's only 6 minutes from the house. Also an indoor pistol and archery range.

There is still today, Saturday , and Sunday  to submit an entry  :)    As the host, I'm not eligible , however will still be out shooting .  Minus 20 deg here today , so I'll be using a couple of loading blocks instead of loose patches and balls to try to keep my fingers warm .

Bob, I can't do the cold anymore.  Even at 0 C, my fingers get so cold I cannot feel anymore, so -20 C is definitely out for me.  I admire your tenacity.

LOL - back in the day, we even tried to shoot at -40. That was hard on main springs.
Then, we made -20 the lower limit - talking foreign (fahrenheit) heat here. As time went on
the lower limit got warmer and warmer, then it sat at -5C for a few years. That's 23F.
Now, it's around 0 (32F) to +4 - lol.

Using the loading blocks with my rifle, and of course, paper cartridges in my smoothbore, I can shoot pretty well without having to remove my mittens
