Excellent resource for info/pics from the Met
« on: January 11, 2021, 08:36:49 PM »
So, I just learned about this today.
The Met museum has an online search tool that lets you access all of the info/pictures of their exhibits.
Thousands of guns, edged weapons, armour, tools etc.
Most have excellent close up pictures, descriptions/provenance and measurements.

Here is an examples of a search of the keyword flintlock that gives 244 results.
https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search#!?q=flintlock&perPage=20&offset=0&pageSize=0&sortBy=Relevance&sortOrder=asc&searchField=All

You could also search gun, pistol, rifle, knife, musket etc.
This is the quality of images you can expect.

My gracious how large do you want them. I looked and after going full screen and hitting the "+" sign I can see every little detail.

The Met recently received a sizable gift from a benefactor interested in expanding the museums offerings in high art American long rifles. A search will reveal some beautiful examples.

There is word that one or more major collections of American rifles will be placed in the Met. They have some new curators who have realized that the museum philosophy and perhaps bias against Ky Rifles has been a detriment to the collections and are endeavoring to rectify this deficit.

True, not all of them are zoom-able. But most are.

I have been to the Met and was amazed by the pieces of they have. There is also a room of high art English guns on display. Anyone being in NYC should really make it a point to visit.

Perfection

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Shreckmeister's post shows the plus and minus used to control but first use the little square with the arrows pointing out in each corner, clicking on it will make the photo full screen, then click on the plus sign to make the photo even larger. You can give it several clicks before the photo's becomes to pixilated.
