Another Virginia Horn

 Again this is after one in Dr. Hopkins' book: Bone Tipped & Banded Horns pg s 252-253. It is listed as a Rockingham Co. horn. Not a copy but in the style of.
 It's about 15" around the outside curve and 12 1/2 tip-to-tip. The 2 1/2" butt is Dogwood with a Pewter patch, a staple for the strap, it is held in by 4 Iron pins. The horn tip is 3 1/4" and is threaded 5/8-11. There is a staple in the neck to keep the strap in place.
 Color is some Brown dye with shoe polish after.

That is a beautiful horn!   The curves of the horn and curves of the turnings compliment each other.   The color is great too.

Very nice Tim.  I just got Jay's book this week. I used some of his plates for ideas on a horn I made last November at Cadle/DeCamp class.

Did not see the pewter patch. I love this horn, the colors are just right.

  The patch is more a plug, it is right on the rim in the first shot very hard to see. It was a worm hole, I plugged one end and poured the Pewter in the other, then turned it.

Neat, Dogwood with a bullet in it :)

Jim Webb once showed me an early horn that had a bullet hole through it. Someone had repaired in with what looked similar to a copper watch band with a copper watch over the hole. If I remember right the entrance hole was through the butt plug that had been plugged with wood. It was an original horn.

That's another keeper Tim, it is beautiful. I like the design as it is very plain, no frills and nothing fancy. This is a good example of an early style horn...

That's another fine clean Southern horn Tim . I really like the patch on the butt cap , gives it some real personality .
