Now that is different,.  If turned vertical reminds me of a cathedral.  Thanks for posting.

Thank you for posting the photo of what has to be one of the most incredible boxes I have ever seen. There must be some significance to this design; Masonic, commemoration of some important building, sheer fantasy, or what? In any case it is beautifully executed with ten piercings and a captured lid. Pretty fantastic! Are you going to post photos of the rest of the gun?

Roney rifle. Many Masonic symbols. Believe the patch box represents a Masonic lodge building.

Unbroken chain on the box = Odd Fellows Lodge, different fraternity. I see the Square and Compass in the wrist so that gives it a Masonic connection too. Likely the owner was active in many fraternal orders.

A really big Thank You for showing the rest of the gun. Beautiful and very artistic in all its parts. This is a one gun collection, if I have ever seen one.

It was quite common during the "golden age" of fraternalism for guys to be members of multiple organizations and dual IOOF/Masons membership was quite common.  I don't see, to the best of my knowledge, any Masonic symbolism in the patchbox but the columns and pillars may very well have IOOF meanings.  The square & compass is generally a no-brainer as is the three links - the all-seeing eye is also very Masonic but had broader associations as well.  Regardless, wonderful rifle.

120,
I feel the patch box represents a Masonic Temple building. It is more easily seen vertical than horizontal. Obviously imagination can create wonderful things.

That could very well be with the two columns representing "Jachin" and "Boaz" - important components in Masonic legend and symbolism.
