Hunting Bag for my MESDA inspired horn
« on: February 01, 2021, 05:23:56 PM »
A week or so ago I posted a horn I carved that was inspired by a mesda fraktuer drawing. Here is the bag I’ve made to go with it. The incised and painted pinwheel keeps the Quaker theme going. The harness spots along the edge of the flap are antique and some are worn through. The detachable horn straps are attached with antique buckles and the shoulder strap adjusts with an antique brass roller buckle. The bag measures about 8” wide x 8 1/2”. All I need now is the knife and measure.

Thanks a bunch Tim. I think the horn and bag will make a pretty neat set. Still Plenty of room for me to screw it up but I’m optimistic.

Nice work T.C.!!  Couple of questions if you dont mind answering....size of the bag and is the flap and back one piece with a liner inside the flap?  Tough to tell but it almost looks like a separate piece on the outside of the flap as well.  Just curious.  Almost looks like the shape of the Carper bag in a way.

TC,

That is a great bag.   The construction is perfect, as I would expect; and the artistry is also terrific.  I like the color.   What kind of paint did you use?

Tim,  You're always coming up with something believable, but unique.  I really like it.  A couple of pieces there look familiar.  James Levy

Well, I just have to say something about this beautiful piece of leather work. First off Tim, you can come up with some of the most unique pieces. You make a horn that is unlike any other I have ever seen and then you make a pouch that is a superb work in leather in itself. You put them together and the work is so awesome. I always say you have outdone yourself but then you come up with something like this beautiful pouch and horn.
Kind Regards

That is a great bag and I really appreciate the construction.  One question- are those brass decorations going to put a hurting on the horn?  My temptation would be to strap and sling the horn on the off side.  Nicely done overall good sir.   God Bless,   Marc

That's really nice leather work. I frequently have troubles figuring out various acronyms. What is mesda? I've seen it before. Thanks, Dave

Thanks again for all the good words about the bag. I will try to catch up on questions. If I forget one please let me know and I will answer it ASAP. First the flap is double thick and separate from the bag. It’s attached with a hinge strip sewn across the top of the flap and bag. The bag measures about eight inches wide by eight and a half inches top to bottom. The paint is simple artist acrylics brush applied and rubbed back. I don’t think The harness spots will rub that horn at all but I wanted them to look like they had done so for ages so I put the ones that were worn through at the top of the flap. I hope I assessed everything asked. The knife comes next, I think I found the perfect one but its a really old one and needs a little restoration before it’s fit to use.
Thanks again,
Tim A
