Covid Postal Match for February 2021
« on: February 01, 2021, 10:17:54 PM »
Daryl and I collaborated on the target(s) for this month's event.  He will provide a prize for the smoothbore event, and I for the rifle match.
The targets are as follows, ie:  go to Targetz.com  Print or draw the following three targets:  1) 10116 p. 8,   2) 10136 p. 10,   3) 10124 p. 9
Rules:

25 yards unsupported (offhand)
categories:  rifle and smoothbore (as in previous matches)
submit up to two entries for each of these three targets
target 1:  10116 p8 - five shots

target 2:  10136 p 10 - four shots

target 3:  10124 p 9 - five shots

scoring on all targets: by half ball rule - 5 points for centre, 3 points for next ring, 1 point for hit on paper not half ball in ring.  The aggregate of your targets 1, 2, and 3 will be your score.  If there is a tie after scoring only your better of two, I'll score all your submissions to break the tie.
So this is going to be a busy shoot.  Good luck and have fun with this.

I am offering one of my copper headed flint knapping/turnscrews engraved with the match name and date and winner's name, as the rifle prize...film at 11.

Note:  this is a short month, so get crackin'!!

I don't understand  "1 point for hit on paper not half ball in ring".

I'm thinking that if you get a shot on paper outside of the ring and if you perhaps almost get a hit on the ring but not a 1/2 ball in you get 1 point.    Actually, the 1/2 ball comment is not necessary since that was already mentioned at the beginning .  So, hit on paper outside the ring = 1 point

Got my targets printed and hope to get out in the next few days to do my usual job of embarrassing myself.

Bob has it.  1/2 ball in, scores 3 or 5. Any other hit, scores 1.
That 4 shot target is going to be a tie breaker, I think, with the 1" 5 zones.
The 5 shot square and 5 shot diamonds are 2" on all sides.

Yes Tony.  Your score will be an aggregate of those three targets.

No sun, no wind.  Today, for some reason, the gun wandering around while aiming was more than normal.
My front sight appeared shiny square on top, as normal.  I also found I could not call my shots today with
any accuracy.  Oft times, I'd say - felt good and it was almost out of the square - or was entirely. On one
target I didn't photograph, I missed the page entirely, then when I re-shot that one, it was a solid 1. LOL
No rhyme nor reason, today.
If there was a sun behind the clouds, it was from the right/rear. I think the right shots are likely movement
during the firing cycle. I was having some ignition problems for some reason. (inattention to the flint)

I just noticed you had several hits to the right. Sometimes on a cloudy day the sun will peek out a little and brighten up the sight.

I don't think it was the sun - just me shooting a flintlock.
I get the odd good shot.

Well here's my first effort.  It scores 62/70.  That first target, ie:  the circular bull with the 1 inch centre, had some sort of force field over it that prevented me from getting a better score.  I tried several times on this target, and I found it almost impossible to hit that three inch black 3 ring, let alone the 1 inch centre.  One thing that was positive though...the temperature was just below freezing and normally here at this time of year we have to deal with - 25 C.  So though my fingers did get cold from handling spit patched material, we got through it ok.  I hope we get some more of this balmy weather for some more shooting fun.
Oh yeah, my stats:  T. Allison .25 cal., .250" balls, .021" denim patches dripping with spit, 30 gr. GOEX FFFg.

I shot yesterday , the usual .395 ball , 60 grs. Swiss, .022 Teflon coated pillow ticking patch, 25 yds. offhand. I will submit the two targets, the third one is posted just for your laugh of the day. Well that's what happens when the gun goes off as your getting on the target, oops. I hope to try again next Sunday.

That's credible shooting Steven, on your first two targets.  I scored the first two as a 25 and an 18, giving you the benefit of that ball on the line on your second target.  Since the score needs to be an aggregate of the three, I've penciled in your third target score as a 13 (only four shots on it), so your aggregate score so far is 56, but I would like to see you submit a better third target.  Nicely done so far.
