Dry horn

   Anyone use anything special to keep powder horns from drying and flaking during extremely dry winters.

Howard Feed-N-Wax.  Metal, wood, horn, antique, modern... I use on leather, but only occasionally.  While others may have their favorites, regular treatment is the real key.

100% Lanolin works great.  A small amount goes a long way and keeps the horn from drying.  That and keeping the horns from a heat source.

Beeswax gently enwarmened and rubbed thinly about the horn.
