Pouch Type Sheath for a Hill Knife
« on: February 06, 2021, 05:05:21 PM »
A good friend asked me a few months back to make a sheath for a forged knife he bought from Robert Hill.  I took some time and crafted this fairly plain sheath from 4-5 ounce cowhide.  Robert made such a graceful, subtle and beautiful knife, it made me do some thinking about the sheath needs.  I love adornment on leatherwork, but this one called for simple.  It will hopefully blend in with the reenactor's kit at living history events as a militiaman.  The sheath is of course welted, as is the belt loop on the reverse (which will take the load off the stitching).  All hand stitched with 4-ply waxed Irish linen to protect the leather in the long run.  Dyed in layers with thinned Pro-Dye.  I am pretty chuffed with the way this one fits.  The Hill blade won't be falling out accidentally.  God Bless, Marc

Man that looks like a good fit, paired up well with the knife. Nice work Marc.

Nice sheath for that knife Marc.  I will do one for my knife Robert made.  Thanks for sharing.

Nice sheath Marc. The last thing that a frontiers man would want to happen is to lose his knife. Good work my friend and God Bless You.

Great job, Marc...it really suits Robert’s blade. I need to get back in the shop and come up with a design suitable for my Hill & Hill Forge knife.

I saw that note on the "Hill & Hill Forge".  It should probably read "Hil,l Hill and & Forge".   :-D

Thank you for the kind words folks.  Unlike many projects, this one did not fight me tooth and nail.  I like that.

God Bless,   Marc

One of the benefits of being a part of the living history community are the friends you make along the way. Two years ago at the Battle of Camden event I had the pleasure of meeting Marc, Robert and his grandfather Mr. Bob. Some of the most talented and genuinely nicest folks you could ever hope to meet.  Now I have a knife and sheath that will be a reminder of these great friends. Honored to know them and now honored to carry something they both had a hand in creating. Regards, Bill
