Beautiful!!!!!!   I wish I could do work that neat and clean.   The decoration is outstanding, but I marvel at the evenness and consistency of your stitches.

I have to agree with Mark that your designs are precise and stunning but your stitching is what really captures my eye.  No matter how precise I try to be, i always manage to get a few stitches off center.  Great job!!!

Probably something eclectic, like a classic Brit officer's Philadelphia screw tip horn and perhaps a French clasp knife? Some gentry or officer trying to cover all the bases???

For once, I’m at a loss for words...the details in this piece just blow me away!  The tooling on the flap is simply exquisite, as is the overall design and execution. Great work, James!

Stunning James.  A tour-de-force.  I really appreciate the wavy stamped line along the flap border.  It complements the edge binding so nicely. That is a well designed buckle you made too.  It all hangs together so very well.  The lines, finish, details, and stitching are top-flight.  Someone is going to be over the moon when they get it.

I think this would be totally appropriate for a well-to-do gentleman in Charleston, reflecting an English influence.  Perhaps to accompany a fine smoothbore in the Low Country.

God Bless,   Marc

Thank you all! Means a lot, especially when nowadays when I need more magnification and tons more light just to see what I'm doing. For those remarking on stitching consistency.... its a matter of keeping that awl at the same slant and at the same depth every time as well as pulling the stitches down with the same technique every time. Flattening a spot on your awl handle will allow you to get it in position by feel. It will also keep it from rolling off the bench when you sit it down.  Learning to stitch with the above technique while juggling the two needles and the awl with the work held in a clam is being totally lost these days due to the Asian stitching chisel.

In a word, superb. Simply superb!
Question: is this type of buckle made from sheet steel in a die or do you file the shape from a thicker piece of iron?

I thank all you humbly!
Johnny, I do use some die forged buckles but this is one of my hand filed signature buckles, many of which are copied from locally dug originals in my collection.
