Here is my "The cobblers kids have no shoes rifle".  This .50 caliber has been my "go to" rifle for the past couple of years.

;) ;)... David,... 48" will do in a pinch,... I have an original LAWING that is only 47",.. HaHa,... now,... old straight chairs are another weakness of mine,... did you put the  new seat in this one,...?  great rifle,.... and chair,...regards,... CCF

I found the chair in a trash pile. A friend of mine did the bottom. The 48” barrel I bought from a tailgate vendor for $12 on the side of the road. It was a 1970’s built barrel that had never had a touch hole drilled. I saw the rifling machine it was cut on recently. It was made by Boyd Henry in Buchannon, WV. I was going to shorten it but couldn’t bring myself to do it. I decided I’d wait till it was worked out and needed re-breached or re-cut at muzzle and shorten it then.

David Rase, that is a fine looking gun you made.  Looks like it'd be an enjoyable shooter.

BTW, I saw the quote from Charlie Daniels in your signature.  Charlie grew up about a mile from where I grew up.  He was older than me, and later moved across the river, but we were all mighty proud of him.  Sad we lost him recently.

God Bless,   Marc

My go to smooth rifle, 47"  Don Getz .54 barrel that survived a house fire and a stock cut from the burned and charred maple tree in front of the house.

Is that Jack’s funky flint hammer percussion conversion he had at the Cincinnati Show last year? I loved that rifle.

That looks like my display fully matured.  ;)

One of Ron Ehlert’s first iron mount rifles. Bugged me to let him make me a rifle (early in his gun making). I told him I wanted a SW Virginia, iron mount. This is what I got. My go to rifle.
38” barrel, .40 cal.

While the Ehlert rifle is my go to, this is what I find myself shooting the most lately.  Made by Ric Lambert in the style of Thomas Simpson. A middle Cumberland style. Ric does a fantastic job. Now I need to find a horn so I can match the one Simpson made for Mansker to go with the rifle he made him.

Mel Hankla owns the original rifle and horn. He sent me photos of it so I could copy it. He often has it at some of the longrifle shows.
