Well it's losing more weight. Still chubby but approaching final form.

Skinny up your lock panels.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

The wood between the tang and the panels being more in line with the flats on the barrel will thin up the top of the panels and help get rid of the equal amount of panel around the lock. It’s hard to tell but is your wrist taller than wide?

(Allen Martin Kutztown Schimmel)

Also exposing a bit more than half your barrel will thin her up a bit.

Yep, I spent the morning taking more wood out, and I know I'm still not done yet.. I need to play with my front lock mortise design more to get the look I am after in the architecture. I wish I had a nice example here to feel the way the comb flowed into the cheek peice and the comb flowed into the wrist.  Its hard to tell if architecture is dished or radiused in 2D.

Wrist is wider than it is tall by quite bit, forearm will shrink substantially and forearm top will be slightly below 1/2 way mark on the barrel.

I really do appreciate everyone's assistance. Keep up all the suggestions.

Took a moment to wipe it with a damp cloth to raise some whiskers and really just see more of what I'm working with on grain curl. Lots of scraping to do tommorow. Will be a beautiful piece of wood when done!

Northup,
Another suggestion..... the cheek side of the stock above the cheek piece should be concave, not convex, with a very fine cheek piece.
It will totally change the shape of the cheek side, and make it look like a Lehigh.
More like this.
Also gives a place for that big old star if you want to.

Ok so it is concave. Thank you Smallpatch. I've been waiting to finalize that part and left it fat on purpose. I couldn't tell from pictures if it was slightly convex, flat, or concave..  That is one of  are the transitions i was curious about.

Here you go Yip. Not much of a butt to look at.
50/50 tru oil linseed, will let harden a few days and rub out with fine steel wool. Then some wax.

Not a builder. More a student and have commissioned a piece, or two.

Not all of the extra wood in a slim longrifle is found just from the lock and side plate panels through the butt profile. The thickness of the ramrod channel web can make or break a slim forend, especially in a school noted for its slim proportions.
