Does anyone still make the “Olde Towne” wood stains?
« on: February 22, 2021, 08:59:33 PM »
My father is building a Haines inspired rifle for himself and used the last of his favorite stain, Olde Towne Lancaster Red Brown, to finish it off. The bottle is older than I am and we are wondering if we can find more.

Searches online return nothing, did anyone pick up this mixture, or start making anything close?

Here's a photo of the stain on the curly maple stock.

That is a pleasing colour, but the stain appears to be covering the grain structure up, instead of showing it off.
It's fine if that is the effect you want, of course.

It seems that is what Muzzleloader Builder Supply called there line of stock stains. Not sure they still carry it, might be worth a call.

You might try Susie Biccio. She used to own MLBS.

This is right after stain application, grain is singing now with oil. I’ll share some photos when it’s done.

I will second LMF Lancaster red.  I think you’ll find it very close (attached pic is LMF maple with a 2nd coat of LMF Lancaster Maple...I think it enhances the figure in the wood)

I'm also a vote for Laurel Mtn, but I think just maple is closer to the color you are looking for. I just did a couple test samples on some scraps. Top color is LM maple. Bottom Is JE Moser Golden Amber Maple.

Thank you all, I'll be adding some of the Laurel Mountain to our shopping list.
