How we tested the barrel.
« on: February 25, 2021, 10:43:00 AM »
Made a vent into the rear of a breech plug. And touched it off like a cannon. Soldered a scope mount and used an old rifle scope to sight the thing.
Target was at 100 yards. 3shot group was well under 2” with a random load and patch . I bore sighted it to get if on the paper and my index finger is where it first struck  before I moved the crosshairs to the black spot. I was proud of that feat.

Did we miss the first part of this conversation? What is the barrel for. If you are using a scope I will assume it is for an inline black powder rifle.

He's talking about the barrel he just  rifled on the old rifling machine. The post is from a few days ago.

Nice job on the barrel BTW. I make a lot of my own parts...even made a lock. Not sure if I'll ever get around to making my own barrel though...  a barrel is something I'd be very proud of.

The barrel is going on an East Tenn rifle. It’s the barrel I cut on the old machine. I wanted to see what the accuracy potential was before I built a rifle around it. I wanted it to group under 2” at 100 yards. The vise, base, soldered on mount and scope are temporary just to take the variable of the person out of the equation as much as possible. It fired some several groups around 1.5 inches.but all under 2.

Good job Carper. I have unmentionable guns that don’t shoot that well. ;D
Thats a good set up to see if they are worth the effort.
